On 3rd\u00a0<\/span>March 2023, National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) by National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), in supported by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), has kicked off Handing Over meeting with the motorcycle taxi riders who are interested in the \u2018Cooperative Project to Promote the Use of Electric Motorcycles for Public Transport in Thailand\u201d, attended by Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul, Executive Director of ENTEC, Mr. Panat Lin, Representative of Dongguan Tailing Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. (TAILG), Mr. Somsak Prangthong, Director of Demand Side Management and Social Affairs Division, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Mr. Thongchai Lapchaturaphit, Managing Director of the Stallions Co., Ltd. Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul<\/strong>, Executive Director of ENTEC, emphasized on the role of ENTEC-NSTDA in supporting the transition to electric mobility in order to alleviate the global warming crisis and air pollution problems, especially the small Particulate Matter pollution (PM2.5). The use of electric motorcycle has been promoted for public transportation since the Phase I, which has established a country\u2019s transportation model and energy demand projection to push forward the policy recommendation for electric vehicles. This phase 2 demonstrates the use of electric motorcycle in real world. At the present, all electric motorcycle parts and batteries have completely been delivered to Thailand by TAILG; whereas, the Stallions has assembled all 50 electric motorcycles with energy consumption tracking device from ENTEC.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Mr. Somsak Prangthong<\/strong>, Director of Demand Side Management and Social Affairs Division, EGAT, reiterated on behalf of collaborative project partners to support electric vehicle technology for alleviation of global warming crisis and air pollution problems, especially PM2.5 pollution, which is aligned with EGAT\u2019s goal on supporting green public transport for Thailand toward Carbon Neutrality by increasing proportion of clean energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution that affect people\u2019s health. Mr. Somsak referred to EGAT\u2019s previous initiative on delivery of 51 electric motorcycles to motorcycle taxi riders as a prelude to this project, where EGAT will contribute battery swapping stations and coordinate with motorcycle taxi riders in the Bangkruai district of Nonthaburi province and the Bangphlat district of Bangkok.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Mr. Thawat Saenphakdee<\/strong>, Deputy District Security Officer of Bangkruai district expressed his gratitude for the project continuous support on clean energy electric vehicle technology. The residences of Bangkruai district were very pleased to be involved in expanding the electric vehicle usage, especially for the use as motorcycle taxi riders. This is in accordance with the livable community project of Bangkruai district, aiming to create jobs and promote the economy. The promotion of electric motorcycle as motorcycle taxi also connects residential daily travel with public transportation systems including buses, express boats, and other public transportation modes to surrounding areas.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Ms. Sukalaya Intaraphakdi<\/strong>, Senior Municipal Official, Representative of Bangphlat district, expressed her appreciation for the project in recognition of Bangphlat district of Bangkok in the electric motorcycle taxi demonstration. The residences will benefit greatly from this support because Bangphlat district is an interconnection area of public transportation system, including buses, Blue line of Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT), and the express boats along the Chao-Phraya river (Bangphlat district boundary).<\/p>

After the project explanation on conditions of expenses to participate in the project, consisting of public motorcycle taxi registration (by transferring from original conventional motorcycle to the project electric motorcycle), cost of accident and property theft insurance, and subscription cost for battery swapping station service (first time trial to design sustainable business model for future expansion), many motorcycle taxi riders have showed interest to participate by submitting all necessary documents for further project implementation..<\/span>
