The National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in collaboration with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), has broadened the deployment of “EnPAT,” a safe and sustainable product derived from Thai palm oil. As part of this initiative, a transformer filled with EnPAT was installed in Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province or Korat. The installation was carried out under the supervision of the PEA Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima branch, with Mr. Supot Bupphapromrat, Manager of PEA Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Branch, leading the operations.
EnPAT features a high flash point of over 300 degrees Celsius, which helps prevent fire-related incidents caused by transformer explosions. This significantly enhances public safety. Additionally, EnPAT is biodegradable and environmentally friendly, making it easier to manage in case of leaks. It is non-toxic and harmless to both soil and water.
This innovation represents an important step toward improving public safety and quality of life through science and technology. Moreover, once EnPAT reaches the end of its life cycle in transformers, it does not need to be disposed of as hazardous waste. Instead, it can be reused as a raw material for biodiesel production without incurring disposal costs.
Since EnPAT is derived from palm oil, it also aligns with the government’s policy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.
Mr. Supot Bupphapromrat, Manager of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Branch, shared his thoughts during the installation of EnPAT-filled transformers in Nakhon Ratchasima Province on September 25, 2025.
“We’re delighted to collaborate with NSTDA on the implementation of EnPAT innovation in Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima area today. EnPAT represents a meaningful integration of energy, technology, and community. Using EnPAT—made from Thai palm oil—in our local power distribution transformers aligns perfectly with our renewable energy goals. This innovation enhances system stability and safety while helping reduce fire-related incidents, providing better protection for residents and their property, especially in urban areas served by PEA Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Branch.”
“PEA is committed to advancing our electrical infrastructure to support the development of smart cities. This initiative is in line with the provincial governor’s vision of turning Nakhon Ratchasima into a Smart City. Expanding the use of EnPAT in our service area is a major step toward that goal. It’s a key milestone on the path to making Korat a true Smart City,” He added.
