ENTEC Showcases SEESOLAR Agricultural Solar Panels at Banpu ESG Summit 2024

On October 9, 2024, at the JW Marriott Hotel in Bangkok
The National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), led by Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul, Executive Director, along with Dr. Taweewat Krajangsang and the Solar Photovoltaic Research Team (SPVT) from the Energy Innovation Research Group, presented its groundbreaking agricultural solar technology. The Solar Photovoltaic Research Team (SPVT) of ENTEC was invited by Banpu Public Company Limited to showcase their innovative “SEESOLAR” an agricultural solar panel technology, at the Banpu ESG Summit 2024.

At the exhibition, Dr. Taweewat Krajangsang, a researcher of ENTEC’s Solar Photovoltaic Research Team, revealed that SEESOLAR is an innovative agricultural solar panel designed for agriculture (AgriPV) developed by the SPVT research team at ENTEC. The SEESOLAR panel features semi-transparent properties specifically engineered to optimize the amount of light to pass through for plant growth while generating renewable energy. The innovative design incorporates a specialized film that allows only 17.5% of ultraviolet (UV) radiation to pass through, significantly outperforming conventional semi-transparent solar panels which allow 45.5% UV transmission. Additionally, this advanced film technology also provides superior light diffusion and reflects 12% of infrared radiation, compared to just 6% in standard semi-transparent panels, resulting in more effective temperature reduction in greenhouses and buildings. Furthermore, the panels are optimized to transmit Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), which is essential for plant growth, resulting in consistent plant growth while maintaining appropriate temperatures in greenhouses.

SEESOLAR also promotes sustainable energy use, as it can generate clean electricity while simultaneously supporting agricultural production. The generated electricity can be utilized for greenhouse environmental control systems, such as temperature and humidity control systems. With its robust design and weight comparable to standard panels, SEESOLAR is suitable for installation in various configurations, including as a greenhouse roof for small or large crop areas, livestock farms, aquaculture farms, and even as a roof or awning for residential buildings. This versatility, combined with its dual-purpose functionality, positions SEESOLAR as an ideal solution for sustainable agriculture and energy production.
