2026.04.23 ENTEC NSTDA Partners with Yachiyo and Atomis to Advance MOFs Technology for Clean Energy in Thailand

On April 23, 2026, Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani

The National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in collaboration with Yachiyo Engineering Company Limited and Atomis Incorporated, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance high-level energy technology. The partnership focuses on Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) to develop innovations in gas storage and carbon capture, aimed at strengthening energy security and accelerate the transition toward a low-carbon society in Thailand and the ASEAN region.

The signing ceremony was honored by the presence of H.E. Mr. Otaka Masato, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand, who served as a witness and delivered congratulatory remarks. He stated that this MOU reflects the shared commitment of Thailand and Japan to enhancing energy cooperation while addressing the global climate challenges. Central to this initiative is MOFs technology, pioneered by Professor Susumu Kitagawa of Kyoto University, a Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (2025). This partnership integrates Japan’s advanced technology with Thailand’s specific needs through synergy between the private sector and research institutions.

For Thailand, MOFs technology holds significant potential to enhance the use of bioresources, diversify energy sources, and mitigate environmental impacts. Its key capabilities include carbon dioxide capture and the efficient storage of hydrogen and biomethane for clean energy. Furthermore, the technology can be adapted for emergency situations, such as flooding, which has become increasingly frequent in recent years. The Embassy of Japan in Thailand has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the initiative toward tangible outcomes, with the expectation that this collaboration will serve as a foundation for future joint projects, strengthening Thailand-Japan relations and advancing energy security and sustainable development across ASEAN.

Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul, Executive Director of ENTEC, highlighted that this cooperation is a vital step in translating scientific knowledge with industrial application. By combining ENTEC’s domestic R&D strengths with Atomis’s cutting-edge material innovations and Yachiyo’s engineering expertise, the partnership aims to accelerate the transition of MOFs technology from the lab to real-world use across the clean energy value chain. She further emphasized that the collaboration aligns with Thailand’s national energy plan and environmental targets, including its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for greenhouse gas reduction and the Power Development Plan (PDP). The partnership underscores a shared commitment between Thailand and Japan to foster innovation that delivers positive economic, social, and environmental impacts for both countries in the years ahead.
