Science That Delivers: The House Committee Calls for Research and Innovation to Strengthen Thailand’s Economy and Deliver Public Benefit

The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) welcomed members of the House Committee on Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI Committee), led by Ms. Thitima Chaisaeng, Chair of the Committee, together with Mr. Worawong Worapanya, First Vice Chair, Mr. Kriangkrai Kittithanesuan, Third Vice Chair, Mr. Sanya Nilsuphun, Committee Member and Advisor, as well as committee staff and experts. The visit aimed to review NSTDA’s progress and exchange views on science, research, and innovation, with a particular focus on accelerating the translation of research into practical solutions that improve livelihoods and strengthen local economies.
The delegation was welcomed by NSTDA executives led by Dr. Chularat Tanprasert, Executive Vice President of NSTDA, together with Executive Directors and Executive Deputy Directors of NSTDA’s National Research Centers. The executive team presented an overview of NSTDA’s strategic initiatives, key research achievements, and ongoing efforts to drive innovation that supports Thailand’s sustainable economic and social development.
During the discussion, Ms. Thitima emphasized that investment in science, technology, and research should be viewed not as an expense, but as an investment in the country’s future. She stressed that research must generate tangible benefits for farmers, entrepreneurs, and industry while addressing real challenges faced by communities. The Committee also highlighted the importance of communicating research outcomes more effectively and accelerating technology transfer to ensure innovations reach businesses and local communities. These priorities align closely with NSTDA’s commitment to building an integrated innovation ecosystem through collaboration among government agencies, academia, industry, local communities, and the legislative sector, enabling research to create real impact in areas such as clean energy, electric vehicles, environmental management, agriculture, healthcare, food safety, and AI applications.
The visit concluded with a tour of NSTDA’s scientific and technological infrastructure, including the Sustainable Energy Technology Exhibition at the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC). Led by Dr. Nuwong Chollacoop, Deputy Executive Director of ENTEC, the delegation explored the Center’s research and innovation in solar energy technologies, clean fuels, oleochemicals, and energy storage systems. These technologies play a vital role in supporting Thailand’s energy transition toward its Net Zero Emissions and Carbon Neutrality goals. Committee members expressed strong interest in the showcased innovations, engaging in discussions and providing recommendations on how science, research, and innovation can be further translated into practical benefits for the nation and its people.
