On 21 July 2026, the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), welcomed executives from the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMUC) during their visit to monitor the progress of PMUC-funded research projects at Thailand Science Park.
During the visit, Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul, Director of the Energy Innovation Research Group at ENTEC, presented the progress of the Research and Development of a Standardized Swappable Battery Pack Platform for Electric Motorcycles project, which has been supported by PMUC. The project has successfully evolved into the establishment of the Universal Battery Standard Consortium, a collaborative platform aimed at developing national standards for battery packs used in small electric vehicles. The initiative covers key standardization areas, including battery packs, connectors, and CAN data frames, enabling interoperability, safety, and wider adoption across the industry.
The consortium currently brings together government agencies, private-sector companies, battery manufacturers, electric motorcycle manufacturers, battery swapping and charging service providers, and other key stakeholders across the EV value chain. Beyond electric motorcycles, the standardized battery platform is being expanded to support a wide range of applications, including medical devices, electric boats, solar-powered agricultural systems, and other specialized electric equipment, with the goal of strengthening Thailand’s battery ecosystem and enhancing the country’s industrial competitiveness.
