2025.01.15 ENTEC’s Executive Director participates in the “Japan Thailand Public-Private Automotive Business Forum for Energy and Industry Dialogue”

On January 15, 2025 at the Crystal Hall 3rd Floor, The Athenee Hotel, Bangkok

Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul, Executive Director of ENTEC, NSTDA, joined distinguished speakers in the panel discussion on “Next-Generation Vehicles: Potential of Hydrogen, E-Fuel, and Biofuel” at the Japan Thailand Public-Private Automotive Business Forum for Energy and Industry Dialogue. This event was jointly organized by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), Embassy of Japan in Thailand, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO Bangkok), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Board of Investment (BOI), and the Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnership (AOTS).

During the panel discussion, Dr. Sumittra was joined by Mr. Maeda, CEO of Toyota Motor Asia (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Mr. Ito, Operating Executive of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Mr. Pongsak Luarngchindarat, Climate Technology Deputy Director of Bangkok Industrial Gas Co., Ltd. (BIG), and Mr. Watcharin Boonyarit, Deputy Director General of the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO). The session was moderated by Dr. Kono, Professor from the University of Tokyo.

This forum served as a crucial platform bringing together Thai and Japanese energy and industrial leaders in preparation for the Energy and Industry Dialogue: EID, focusing on energy infrastructure management and strengthening the automotive industry. The meeting provided an opportunity for both Thai and Japanese public and private sectors to exchange strategies and policies, supporting Thailand’s automotive industry development during the energy transition period to align with carbon neutrality goals.

During the discussion, Dr. Sumitra presented in-depth insights into future potential fuels, including domestically-sourced biofuels such as ethanol, biodiesel, and premium biodiesel (H-FAME) – which offer lower emissions comparable to electric vehicles – as well as clean energy from green hydrogen, which produces minimal emissions. The panelists exchanged diverse perspectives, providing valuable insights for stakeholders across the industrial supply chain.
