ENTEC Participates as a Speaker in the Panel Discussion on “Micro Modular Reactor (MMR) Future Energy & Carbon Neutrality” at the International Engineering Expo 2024.

On July 25, 2024, from 16:00-17:30, Room MR 109EF, 1st Floor, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center

Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul, Executive Director of National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), NSTDA, participated as a speaker in the panel discussion on “Micro Modular Reactor (MMR) Future Energy & Carbon Neutrality” at the International Engineering Expo 2024. The event was organized by the Electrical Engineering Committee of the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) under H.M. The King’s Patronage.

The significance of this topic arises from the severe global crises exacerbated by climate change, driven by rising carbon dioxide levels and increasing global temperatures. These changes result from combustion and various forms of energy use. In response, most countries have actively sought solutions to mitigate the severity of climate change. At the COP 28 meeting, one notable proposal was the use of nuclear energy as a low-impact alternative for energy production, provided it is implemented with safety and sustainability measures.

This panel discussion brings together experts from government, private sector, and research field to discuss the potential of Micro Modular Reactors (MMR) for energy production, specifically at levels below 50 MW per unit. MMRs are considered a viable option for Thailand to move towards carbon neutrality in the future.
