2026.05.12 ENTEC, NSTDA Contributes to Advancing ASEAN Biofuel Cooperation at the “Workshop on Advancing Biofuels for Energy Security and Decarbonisation in ASEAN”

On 12 May 2026, the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), NSTDA, participated in the “Workshop on Advancing Biofuels for Energy Security and Decarbonisation in ASEAN,” organized virtually by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE). The workshop served as a platform for knowledge exchange and discussions on biofuel development pathways to strengthen energy security and support decarbonisation across ASEAN.

On this occasion, Dr. Nuwong Chollacoop, Acting Deputy Executive Director of ENTEC, was invited as a speaker for the session “Advanced Biofuel Outlook: Emerging Technologies and Pathways for Sustainable Biofuel Development.” His presentation highlighted emerging trends and future directions in advanced biofuels, including second-generation biofuel and waste-to-fuel technologies, as well as key enabling factors for advancing sustainable biofuel development in ASEAN.

In addition, Dr. Kampanart Silva, Researcher of the Low Carbon Energy Research Group at ENTEC, delivered a presentation on “Development of ASEAN Biofuel Cooperation Framework: Updates and Next Steps,” highlighting the progress of the ASEAN Biofuel Cooperation Framework under SPICES WP2 and discussing pathways to strengthen regional biofuel cooperation under the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026–2030.

Currently, ENTEC serves as a technical consultant to ACE in supporting the development of the ASEAN Biofuel Cooperation Framework under the SPICES project, which has now advanced to Work Package 2 (WP2). This phase focuses on establishing an integrated and sustainable regional biofuel cooperation framework that supports ASEAN’s energy transition. The full report is expected to be released by the end of 2026.

This workshop marked another important milestone in strengthening regional collaboration to promote sustainable biofuel development, enhance energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and support ASEAN’s transition toward a low-carbon future.
